Fall 2010 August through October

Well fall is finally here, I have finished all the work that I wanted to do up to about say ummm June! So if it is possible can everyone delay winter for another 4 months or so?

Don't eat all the potatoes in one sitting!
The garden this year was a flop I got enough potatoes to make dinner. I also got a bunch of seed potatoes so I can replant them next spring. The last pick of the beans got me a bag of seeds for next spring as well. They were way too stringy to actually try to eat, but that was the plan. I pulled about 20 LBS of carrots, but they were all tiny, the radishes went to seed and I got a monster harvest of corn! lol (not).
Check out that corn harvest!

The deer and cattle did a wonderful job on my lettuce it was all nice and tall, ready to pick, then the next morning it was MOWED down! they also took liberties with the carrot tops! I was somewhat angry, and wanted very much to go and fill my freezer with deer and cow! Too bad the freezer is still broken.

You got more lettuce?
I also had some issues with the neibourhood cattle. The farmer left them to forage for too long and they are now visiting my yard to forage. Cows on the lawn is not making the longhair happy!

if you look close you will see the mound of cut grass.
Speaking of lawn I finally managed to mow the back acre or so. Ol red was working overtime to overcome that. The boy came by with his tractor and I filled his trailer with hay  twice for his horses. That was a nasty overgrown back yard! (on the nice side I did throw the rest of the hay over the fence to the cows so they won't have to come here and get it)

Next spring I will have to burn off the stubble to keep the wood ticks down.

You have food for me?
The Boy and I took Marianne along to fish out some beaver traps. The sun was getting low before we got going so it was not that long of an excursion, but that water was COLD! Note to self: get better rubber boots for next year! We did get a pic of a lone elk on the road, but he ran off before we got to him.
